A German pilsner (or Pils) is a lighter and somewhat dryer version of the Czech pils. This very famous bottom-fermenting beer is rarely brewed by craft breweries. It's a pity, because a good pilsner is always very refreshing and a great aperitif.
Pilsner malt makes up the vast majority of the grains here, giving the beer a light straw colour. Only a small percentage of wheat malt has been added here (to improve frothiness) and a touch of outright pale Munich malt, for a slight increase in malt depth.
The soul of this beer is 100% noble German hop varieties grown in the Bavarian Hallertau region - bitter Taurus and aromatic Hersbrucker and Tettnanger. An unusual new wave procedure is an addition of hops during the low-temperature lagering stage, called "cold hopping." This gives the beer an even more pleasant aroma and proves that good old Pilsner does not have to be boring!
