- A combination of the historic Steinbier and Bock styles, with a pleasant, caramel-burnt flavor with smoky accents.
The history of the local Steinbier is associated with the granite system in the Mühlviertel area, which acts as a natural filter for local water sources and gives the drinks from the Hofstetten brewery a unique character, found nowhere else in the world.
The Steinbier style boasts a unique brewing method, which was created over the years in granite troughs, where it was heated until white, and the beer gained an unusual, caramel-burnt and smoky taste.
Granitbock is a fortified version of Hofstetten's Granitbier beer, currently fermented in 120-year-old granite vats, thus combining modern times with the Stone Age. Granite stones are heated until red hot and then thrown into the beer, where the sugar contained in the wort caramelizes, and after cooling, home-made yeast is added to the vat.
The unique taste of Granitbock comes from granite stones that are heated on an open fire until red and then thrown into the beer, caramelizing the sugar contained in the wort. After cooling, our classically bred yeast is added to the vat.
The time-consuming process makes this unfiltered beer full of caramel flavor and aroma and roasted malts that you won't find in modern bock beer.
For aging enthusiasts, we suggest finding a cool, dark place in your home, because this beer is perfect for aging for many years!
